I will be the first person to say that I like a good screen on the trip!
We keep our screen time low at home, which means that when it’s time to ride a long car, my children are very happy to issue tablets (this is our favorite) and watching the show or playing games for several hours.
But we also want to take a screen break -both of them because too much screen time in the car that moves give some headaches of my children or motion diseases and because they are happy to confuse things to make time pass faster!
Are you looking for a complete screen free trip or some screen -free activities to take turns with the screen, here are some of the games and favorite trip activities to make everyone happy on the trip!
(Bagan reads free traveling travel here!)
Games and Travel Activities for Family
- Family audio. You know this will be the first! I have the whole list of favorite family audio books here – perfect for adults and children to be enjoyed together.
- Yoto player. And. . . . It is not surprising that this one is the second. A Yoto player is very good for a trip because every child can listen to himself with headphones plus easily control the volume and what they listen to! (If you are new to Yoto, I have all posts about them here!).
- Foldology Book. I brought this on our Australian journey and my four girls (8-14) spent hours to do it. When I shared it on Instagram, thousands of people grabbed them and I had all folders on the Gushy screenshots from people who love them (adults or children!).
- Search and find books. If you want a book that will provide more than a few minutes of entertainment, searchbooks and find is HIT! Here are some of our favorite.
- Sketch books with a pleasant pen or pencil in a pencil case. This is a big hit in our family – a cheap sketch book plus a set of colored pencils is very useful!
- Magnetic paper doll. My parents gave this set to my girls many years ago and are still used all the time -this is the perfect travel activity because of the box and magnet!
- 50 Country Plate Plate Games. This is one of the classic travel games! One family said, “We keep a notebook, write down all fifty countries and count how many of each you see.” There are also very cheap and funny prints that you can take so that everyone can check it when you leave! I like a small picture from a number plate to give you a picture of what you are looking for!
- Pencil box with Lego mats glued up. This is very genius because they can play while traveling and keep all the pieces of lego in the pencil box!
- Wikkstix. We give some of these modeling sticks that can be reused to my young girls to Christmas and they are very successful!
- Mini magnetic tiles. We like our magnetic tiles at home and mini that is perfect for traveling!
- Murdle Jr. Books of breaking up this pleasant puzzle are a mystery with many instructions to decipher and puzzles to decompose. I got this for my children for Easter and they were very successful (I finally got an adult version for my teenager because the JR version was quite easy for him).
- Rubik’s cube. For some of us (Ahem, I!), This will take 15 hours to finish! This is what we have (I like not having stickers that will be curved or peeling).
- Finger knit. This is a fantastic travel activity – if you need a tutorial, try this one!
- Air Wow. I like this book Wow Air (even as an adult I find them very fun and relaxed) and they are the perfect travel game.
- Doodle Magna board. Some toys survive in the time test and this must be one of them!
- Let go of this book! This is very fun for a trip because it is very interactive – there are both historical stories plus many puzzles to be solved including cutting, drawing, and tearing in this book. There are three in the series!
- Notebook with stickers. Take a packet of cheap stickers and notebooks and let your child go to the city! This sticker book is our favorite!
- Kanodle. This game is packaged easily so that it is perfect for playing while traveling. (There is also a version of two people if you prefer that!).
- Shashibo box. My two children have this and love them very much. They are like restless toys that are more involved and pleasant without stopping.
- 20 Games Question. This is another classic trip – take turns thinking about something and then the rest of the car has 20 questions to try to narrow it. (When I was a child, my parents bought this 20 small question toy and it was very amazing for us all!).
- Paper fold book. We found this paper folds last year and they were extraordinary. No paper or scissors are needed – only fold. My children are obsessed with.
- Magnetic puzzles. You certainly do not want to lose pieces of puzzles on a trip and magnetic puzzles make it easier to track everything. Here are some fun options!
- Painter ribbon. This is one of the hacking of the viral mother now – the painter band is designed not to leave the residue or stick too much so that it is perfect to stick to the window and only play with (my children like ribbons!).
- Silly putty. Other classic. I can’t explain why Silly Putty is so fun, but that’s so!
- Painting with a sticker book. We have gone through dozens of these books for many years -there are adult books that my older girls like (and I like it because they need more time!) And it’s easier for children (the youngest really likes this when he is 3 or 4).
- Glue the $ 1 bill to the sky and choose something to be recognized. This is a funny travel activity suggested by Instagram readers – you choose something hard or funny to recognize and the first person to see it gets $ 1!
- Sing together! What can be better than all uniting your favorite songs when you travel?
- Podcast. I like podcast to listen short and stand alone. Here are some of our favorite podcasts!
- Read. I don’t often do this because it hurts my throat to speak loud enough to hear everyone (I will always choose an audio book that we can all listen to instead!) But Mrs. Bart is the queen reading loudly on the way and I like it!
- Rubberneckers game. This is new to me, it is recommended on Instagram, and the review says it’s fun for the whole family!
- Water painting. I like these books that only need water and brushes (much less messy!) And make beautiful colors!
- Alphabet game. It’s pretty sure I played one million this time as a child on my way! You race others in the car to see each letter in the alphabet so that signs and numbers plate outside the window!
- Water ring game. You might remember this from the 90s but they were just as happy today!
- Get a speaking card game where you read questions and each family member must guess what the answer is.
- Rainbow Loom bracelet. Classic 90s that came out to play!
- Brain search. I remember this Trivia deck from my childhood and my children love them now.
- Lib crazy. This is the classic-elder I give my children some of these sets and they can’t get enough.
- Guess the song. This is a good game to keep everyone involved and is very easy if your car has a Bluetooth connection so you can play music to all cars from your Spotify or Amazon music application.
- LCD picture board. This is very good for the Tic-Tac-Tlye game or scribbling or anything without a lot of paper waste.
- Magnetic tin games are small. Amazon has so many options for this simple travel game, like this Magnetic 4 game!
- Restless toys. There are so many restless toys available now – this is a good and affordable mixture set.
- The spotlight of a hidden picture book. I live for books of this activity when I grow up – Perfect travel activities!
- Little statue to play pretending. This is very fun if you have children sitting together in your back seat so they can play together.
- Image with an expo marker in the window. Giving your child a dry eraser marker and telling them to draw in the window might blow up their minds. I have never tried this but I was tempted to our next trip!
- The window is attached. There are a million cheap and very fun choices!
- Bingo road sign. You can make your own or buy a set that can be reused at a price below $ 10!
- SUPER SLIDE SLIDE. We got one of this for Christmas for our 7 -year -old child and everyone including adults in our family liked it.
