What I Plan to Read Aloud to My Girls in 2026

There’s nothing I love more than making a list of books to read with my girls. If you’d like a printable copy of this reading list, just enter your email address below and it will go straight to your inbox!

One of my favorite things about parenting is reading to my kids at night before bed.

We have so many fond memories because of the books we read together and I love this simple way to calm everyone down at the end of the night.

This past year, we spent most of our time reading aloud to the Little House on the Prairie series that my young girls had absolutely no memory of and it was so much fun to read them live.

This year, as usual, I made a list of books I wanted to read to my four children this year.

Here are the books I want to get:

Our Read Aloud Book List for 2026

National Park Mystery SeriesNational Park Mystery Series

Mystery In Rocky Mountain National Park by Aaron Johnson
Several families in our neighborhood have been raving about this series and we bought it for Tally for Christmas (when I mentioned it on Instagram, I got a ton of messages from people saying how much they and their kids loved it). I think it would be fun to read the first one together!

The Explorer’s Story by Jasmine Warga
When I ask for books for children that I like Wild Robotthis one came up a million times and I’ve never read it! And ever since I read it and loved it MartianI am really interested in Mars!

The Umbrella Mouse by Anna Fargher
I love some historical fiction in our reading and this one has great reviews and is set in World War II but features more animals than most. I think this one will be a hit.

No Purchase Necessary by Maria Marianayagam
This was a book club pick for 2026 and I often read it aloud to my kids over the summer. This one is about a boy who is pressured by his peers to steal a candy bar and then, when the boy who told him to do it, refuses, he opens it and finds that it is a million-dollar prize-winning candy bar.

Which wizardWhich wizard

Which wizard? by Eva Ibbotson
I’ve planned on having this at our October/Halloween read the last few years, but then time just flies so I’m hoping we can get it done this year! The reviews on this one are great and it looks really fun and cute, which I love in a Halloween book (legit scary is NOT for me).

Christmas Paper Bags by Kevin Alan Milne
I’m always looking for new Christmas chapter books to read in December to my kids and I was excited about this book where two brothers volunteer at a children’s hospital for the holidays and discover that the true magic of Christmas comes from love and connection – especially through a brave little girl who helps them see the season in a whole new way.
