How to Get a Refund for a Kindle Book Purchase

If you’ve been around here any time, you know I love my Kindle.

Last year I wrote a post about how to buy Kindle books, which is an easy way to build your library. But what if you buy a Kindle book, open a few pages and realize that the language or voice isn’t for you?

Or worse, what if you accidentally buy a Kindle book you didn’t mean to buy (or your toddler gets your Kindle and goes eBook shopping).

I’m well! You can easily return Kindle books!

(This also means that if you try to buy the Kindle version of a book I recommend and then decide that I have the worst taste? You won’t get anywhere!)

Some things to note about receiving refunds for Kindle book purchases:

Firstly, you can only return Kindle books within 7 days of your purchase date. So, if you’ve been using a Kindle ebook for 6 months and never read it, it won’t have a return option.

Second, you can’t read an entire Kindle book, decide you don’t like it, and then ask for a refund. Amazon doesn’t specify how many you can read, but word on the street is that anything over 10% of reads will be denied returns. Additionally, if you have a high rate of return requests in your account history, you may no longer have the option to return. So don’t try to treat your Kindle book purchase like a library loan!

Third, you can only request a refund for Kindle books from you desktop.

Here’s how you can return Kindle books:

Start by logging into your Amazon account from your desktop.

Go to this Return Kindle Book Orders page.

Click on “Start Your Kindle Book Return.”

Next, click “Digital Orders” so you can see all your content purchases.

Find the Kindle book you want to return. Select “Return for Refund.”

He will then ask why you came back. Choose your reason, click submit and that’s it! Your Kindle book has been returned and you have received your refund!
