11 summer gardening tips for June

Early peas (such as sugar peas), new potato plants, and wide beans must be ready to be harvested this month. And, when it comes to peas, the first choice is often the most delicious!

New potato harvests need to be explored – though, because they have a variety of potatoes, you might want to leave it on the ground longer for a slightly larger plant. However, it is best to not leave them on the ground for more than two or three weeks past their harvest date, or they may be damaged.

Wide beans must be picked from the base of the plant with soft circular motion to prevent damage to the stem. Strawberries will usually be runny and mature this month too, and throughout the remaining summer.

If you have fostered a gooseberry, the lack of ripe can now be selected for use in baking, or for sauce and jam. For the mature, the best is waiting to choose it in July.
