15+ End of Summer Tradition

The school might start, but – because my husband continues to remind me – that doesn’t mean the summer is over!

As long as the warm weather is still there, we counted it summer!

But in the end, in most places, the warm weather will end and the summer will really end.

I asked on Instagram about how people celebrate the end of the summer and I like all the pleasant responses that come in, ranging from simple to complicated!

If you are looking for a fun way to say goodbye in the summer, here are some great ideas!

15+ End of Summer Tradition

• Family dinner at the restaurant with the terrace. I like this one! There is nothing better than eating outdoors to add a little summer without much extra effort and this is an easy way to end summer.
• The last billiard party with friends. This is a very popular way to end summer – Do you have a collection of your own swimming pool access or community, the last walking with swimwear and sunscreen feels like the last great hooray!
• Swimming pool late swimming with pizza. Likewise, this is an extra pleasant round on the last billiard journey this year – there is something so special about a warm summer night, especially when you know it is one of the last.
• Outdoor movie night. This is a good summer activity because you still have warm weather but not too light, so you can watch a movie before midnight! (You can see our outdoor movies arranged here!)
• Hopefully the last day of the summer picnic. No one screams summer like a picnic and this is a fun and easy way to celebrate the end of the summer! You can be luxurious or relaxed too!
• Beach campfire. We don’t live near the beach, but if you do it, this is a fun way to say goodbye in the summer as a family or with friends.
• The last camping journey before it becomes cold. Most of us do not want to camp when frozen outside, so this is the perfect way to end summer and say goodbye to warm weather. A commentator said they did a “group camping trip – we called us ‘hoopla’ there was a shirt and everything.” How fun is that? Other families say they do a backyard camp to mark the end of the summer.
• Go to Splash Pad after dinner one night. Many splash bearings died in September, so sneaking in one last night’s visit is a good way to enjoy the last summer.
• A week stuffing whatever is left on the summer bucket list. I like this idea – If you make a list of summer buckets every year in the early summer, completing all items that are canceled is a good way to celebrate the end of the summer.
• Visit the Water Park. A commentator said, “They seem slow in our area at school a week begins” which makes it the right time to make a last visit!
• Being the host of S’MMORES night. I like s’mores and nothing feels more summer than sitting around the roasted Marshmallow and makes a great combination (Raspberry and Dark Chocolate are topper charts for me!). Plus, this is a fun way to gather friends.
• Visit State or County Fair. I will not think about this but appears many times as a favorite summer tradition. Check Google and see if there is one near you on the last summer days!
• Large water balloon battle with friends. What a fun way to end the summer with sparks!
• Slip n slide down the big hill. My girls will like the tradition of the end of this summer – I might try to realize this this year!
• Ice cream sightseeing. There is something very summer about going to get ice cream (my favorite is when we ride a bicycle to an ice cream shop!). Someone also mentioned that they ordered summer with an early and end trip to the ice cream shop, which I like.
• Host Read-A-Thon. Do you do it only with your family or with neighbors, you know I’m here for the tradition of this summer! Plus, when you can read outdoors, that’s the best.
• The end of the summer tea party. How fun is this? I really imagined it outdoors.
• Cry. This will be my husband who likes summer and warm weather and barely tolerate winter.
